1. What ringtone(s) do you currently have set up on your phone?
I
have my new song I'M THROWED feat JD, since my phone is ringing
all day long, I figured it be a great way to promote the song.
2.
The album is entitled "Get Money Stay True": -
Can you tell us how this title holds true to you?
It's an album
that reflects my lifestyle. I'm on the grind getting money, and
staying true to who I am, as well as staying loyal to my team.
3. What are some words of inspiration you would give
people trying to get that money but also staying true to themselves,
their style, and background?
Be you. Do what makes you happy,
not what other people want you to do to make them happy.
4. You have done it all, the albums,
the jewelry business, marriage, children, label owner- what's
next for you?
I'm just floating
with the wind. Wherever God leads me I'm gonna follow. But for
the meantime I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing. If it aint
broke don't fix it!
5. You recently had a baby with
your wife-how has being a father changed your perspective on
being in the music industry?
It just
makes me want to work harder. My son gives me purpose now in
my life. I have a responsibility to make sure my wife and son
are happy and I can support them and take care of them. I'm so
blessed, I'm grateful for all of the opportunities I have, I
want to work even harder now.
6. You are a huge ringtone seller
for us here at Virgin Mobile- how does it feel to knowing that
your ringtones are so greatly demanded? How does hearing your
ringtone out in public compare with hearing your tracks on the
radio and in the clubs?
It feels
great. I mean, my music reflects my life, and every aspect of
my life style, so the ringtones naturally should fit right in
with whatever mood or situation people go though on a daily basis.
It means a lot more to me when people have my ringtones; because
that means they really appreciate my music. It means they're
a TRUE fan!
7. What music are you listening to
right now?
My boy LIL KEKE
is definitely in full rotation. He's my friend, but I'm also
his #1 fan. He is a Texas legend and the reason I started making
music. Also my boys in +44. I love their new cd WHEN YOUR HEART
STOPS BEATING.
8. This is your second album
with Atlantic Records, how would you describe the differences
between this album and the first?
With
the first album we didn't have a lot of time to record. We were
too busy promoting on the road. But with this new album GET MONEY
STAY TRUE, I went in the studio with my manager T Farris everyday
for about a year and a half. We really put our all into 40 songs,
and narrowed it down to the best 14. I'm really excited about
how my new album sounds.
9. Tell us a little bit about your
involvement with the documentary "Bling:
A Planet Rock", about the diamond conflict in Sierra Leone
and how the experience has affected you.
It
was a moving experience. It encouraged me to want to get involved
with making a change. It was hard to go over there with my wife
having just had our new baby. I missed them so much while I was
gone, but to see the looks in the children's eyes, it was the
stare of despair. I felt like I have to do something to get other
people involved.
10. If you could change one thing about
Hip Hop what would it be?
I hate how people are afraid to be themselves. People feel
like they have to put up a front to impress everybody. I feel
like they should just be themselves. I love seeing artists try
something new. I'm so glad to see Cee Lo in Gnarls Barkley and
Jay Z put out an album with Lincoln Park. Also Outkast sets so
many trends by being so different. I love it, and I wish we could
get more artists to try new things like them.
11. What can we expect from
your live performances on your summer tour?
I love to perform. It's my platform to speak my mind. I try
my best to give a performance, as opposed to just going up and
singing some songs, but that's why I'm always hoarse after every
show, and I'm sweating like a dog. I give it my all!
12. What artist
would you most like to collaborate with that you haven't yet?
Well I have my new group with Travis Barker and
Skinhead Rob. Its called Expensive Taste (www.expensivetastemerch.com and
www.myspace.com/expensivetaste) so I'm really excited about that,
I can't wait for the world to get a load of what we've been creating
in the lab.
